Can I use my corset as a weight loss aid ?
Not exactly. What a corset WILL do for you is reduce the outside
circumference of your waist. It will give you a body awareness that
you don't get with anything else. This will in turn probably cause you
to eat less than normal because you'll be more aware of your body. In
addition, your stomach will be compressed, which makes it harder to
overeat. BUT: when you remove your corset, your stomach will return to
it's normal size and you'll be very hungry.
So, I buy a corset, a considerable investment - and I lose weight.
What happens then ?
A corset will fit your body within 1- - 15 pounds either gain or loss,
depending on your current composition. This is one of the advantages
to the corset lacing up the back. We recommend that your corset have
approximately 2 inches gap down the back when you receive it. That
means you can reduce up to 2" and still have a snug corset (you can
also gain up to 2", but we don't like to see more than a 4 inch gap in
the back of any corset.)
Can you alter my corset to fit me now that I've lost 30 lbs ?
Yes, assuming that your weight loss is more or less evenly distributed
because we alter the corset by removing the lacing the replacing it
with a new lacing panel. This makes the corset smaller by 3" from top
to bottom. This alteration costs $75.
Tell me about waist training - how much smaller can I make my waist
and how fast will it happen ?
In our waist training experience it seems that each individual body
has a different experience. There is no "usual" amount or speed with
which it happens. The best results are achieved by moderate and
frequent corset wearing.
Much better results are achieved by wearing your corset every day for
a few hours than all day one day a week. Also, it's best if the corset
is only comfortably snug. The body will respond much better to a
gradual comfortable compression than it will to an extreme and painful
experience. Please don't wear a corset that pinches or causes you to
be short of breath. A well made corset will support your ribs and hips
comfortably and will very gradually reduce the actual size of your
natural waist.
What won't happen : you buy a corset that's 6 inches smaller than your
natural waist, you wear it for a week and then take it off and
miraculously have a tiny waist.
Corset training means frequent corset wearing. The way your body
responds to the snugness at the waist changes gradually and you
eventually are able to lace the corset more closed. When you take the
corset off you see a slight reduction in your waist size, but this
progress will not last without maintenance, just like a diet program.
You can't expect to keep weight off without continuing to exercise and
and eat sensibly and likewise your waist will not stay smaller without
the corset to encourage it to be so.
Why do your corsets cost so much ?
Our corsets are stitched by highly trained seamstresses that live in
San Francisco, one of the most expensive cities in the United States.
We believe that all people deserve to be paid a living wage and to
that end, have to pay for their labor by charging for it in the corset
price.
The process that goes into a custom corset is very involved and has
several steps. We start with measurements, draft an individual
pattern, test the pattern by stitching a mock-up made of cotton poplin
which is boned with spring steel and laces up the back, just like the
finished corset. The mock-up is tried on our clients in our shop, or
is mailed to our mail-order clients. After the mock-up has been tried
on and seen by our designer in person or in photos, she corrects the
pattern, making any changes she's sees necessary to achieve a perfect
fit. Only then is the corset cut out of three layers; the fashion
fabric, the interlining and lining. It is then stitched, boned,
grommeted and laced up.
In addition to the time intensiveness of this process, we use high
quality materials for each part of the process. What results is the
best fitting, most durable and beautiful corset money can buy.
